You'll need a 790's series chipset if you want to cross fire an ATI card. If you only plan on running a single card then any board with a PCI-E slot will do.
it again depends on what you want to do...it u are planning to put in a phenom and want to overclock it(atleast a little cos phenoms dont have a gud reputation for overclocking) then u shuld go for 790GX(with gfx onboard) or FX(no gfx) with a 750 southbridge(no alternatives)...
but if u are jus planning for a budget system with decent gfx then u can stick to 780G and pop in a compatible low powered gfx for enabling hybrid crossfire...even the 790GX can be a very gud option for the onboard gfx and is more powerful than the 780G but a lil costly...

im just planning on a single card and change board if can afford.. haha I have here Asrock Alive NF7G and 8600GT 256ddr3.. im planning on ATI 4870..can Corsair 620w will handle ATI 4870?
take my suggestion go for a better board for abt 80 to 100 $( saving from replacing the 4870)or so and add add a 4850 for nw...so for the price of a 4870, u have a gud mobo with a grt performing card..
I wouldnt replace your motherboard unless your A) experiancing problems with your current one or B) you want to use multiple ATi Graphics cards.
As said, the ATi card will work with the nForce board, and PCI-E 2.0 cards work in PCI-E 1.1 slots just fine. Also your power supply is plenty good for any single card and even some multi-card setups.
