Aside from cash, which is better, A64 FX-57 or C2D E4500?

I test on my Optelex 755 (E4500+8400GS) @Aquamark 3, which not support Dual-Core,

has the result of GFX6,900 and CPU 12,036

I happened to notice on the x-labs(it seems), in a test of Athlon FX-57 with x850xt,
the result is GFX 8K and CPU 12500+

so taking graphic card difference into account, if my E4500 with x850xt CPU score will go to 14000+
i will be glad that a $99 CPU overpassed $999 CPU

Well considering you were running the E4500 at stock speed of 2.2GHz compared to the FX-57 @ 2.8GHz the E4500 is better. Plus you can easily overclock the E4500 to 3GHz and then its CPU score would smash the FX-57.

In short, the E4500 is a better CPU than the FX-57.

but i can't still believe that a single core amd fx-57 costs $1000

and e4500 is only $100 with 2 cores that each have the excellent performance like FX-57

The FX-57 is going to be a bit faster in most single-threaded applications like Aquamark than the E4500 since the FX-57's core is running at 2.80 GHz rather than 2.20 GHz. The Core 2s are faster than K8s clock-for-clock, but it's not quite enough to overcome the 600 MHz core speed gap (which is why your CPU score was 12,036 vs. 12,500+.) Putting the x850XT with the E4500 shouldn't change the CPU score any if the benchmark is worth a nickel as the computer should have the GPU idle and the CPU pegged during anything that is specifically supposed to just test the CPU. The E4500 and the x850XT would be the better gaming machine with today's multithreaded games, but that's not what you were testing; you were testing a single-threaded CPU benchmark.

Also, you need to remember how old the CPUs are. The FX-57 debuted June 7th, 2005, while the E4500 came out July 22nd, 2007. The E4500 is a midrange CPU that's more than two years newer than the FX-57. You would expect it to at least be close to the same performance, given the age difference and original market segment of the two chips.

Also, top-end CPUs will never drop significantly in price. There are plenty of Pentium 4s and Pentium Ds around over $1000 and they also perform far worse than current <$150 chips. Top-end chips are released in short supply which keeps them pricey. You pay for the "FX" label.

^2 years ago I got a P4 EE on Ebay for $150. Just have to look is all. But in the normal e-tailers you are right. They still stay really high in price because they can't lower the price or they will lose money and hope to sell off the last of stock.
