Word :    Username :

I just installed crysis but I can only choose up to x8 in AA. My friends who also have the game can choose up to x16 in AA and even x16 Q, whatever that means. It's not like the option x16 is there but I can't select it, it doesn't EXIST! I only have up to x8 in my AA meny and no other options exist. I have a much better computer than my friend. I have the Radeon 4870X2 graphic card, quad core cpu at 2.4 MHz and 4 GB RAM.
I can run Crysis in Very High at 1680 x 1050 with x8 AA without any problems! So what's the issue? Is there some problem with my installation? Didn't those options get installed? Do anyone else have the same problem??

Thanks in advance!

Could be driver issue. I have a 8800gts and have 16xaa option, which the card obviously couldn't handle. Considering that, there is no way the game limits itself according to video performance.

interesting, i just replied in your thread in the games section that he was forcing it through drivers but obviously not.

the only thing i can think of is it is a TWIMTBP title and crytek added in extra AA for nvdia's 8 and 9 series.

Crysis is a Nvidia sponsored product, so Nvidia payed them off to optimize game code for Nvidia cards hence your 16x for the GTS and only 8x for the Radeon

As far as i know X16 should be available to you if not 32x supersampling AA. I recently read an article that said all the higher (not very specific i know) spec cards from both camps can do X16 and in SLI or crossfire 32X super sampling AA. So that depends how it reads the 4870X2. Thats in drivers and not in the actual game settings of course.

Why does it matter? It's not like you can tell a difference past 4xAA. :p

I have played BF2 since I got my computer (2yrs ago at C2D launch) and it has been through 4 different GPUS.

On my X850XT, 4X AA was max selectable in BF2
On my X1950XT, 6X AA was max
On my 8800GTS, 8X was max
On my HD4850, 8X is still the max

I have read that some people with just SLId 7900s can get to 16X AA in BF2

I'm thinking that Crysis does something similar to this game, so it will depend on your gpu.

16xQ, I can see Crysis running well with that. I can't even run DX9.0b games at 16xQ :kaola:

HL2 runs pretty well on an 8800GTX and OCed Q6600 at 16xQ. It'll be a while before anything beyond 4x matters in crysis though, unless people like very pretty and extremely well anti-aliased slide shows.

It's amazing how many people have been claiming to run Crysis with everything high/very high and with 16xAA and claim to get 25-35-fps with just a 4870X2. :pt1cable:

I have crysis also and the highest AA i can put is 16 Q so I have no clue what is wrong with your game. Maybe try reinstall, but I have no clue though.

Reply to blackhawk1928

why?

if you could get it forced through the drivers i see no reason to run it at high with that aa at that fps, at least in parts where there is no one else around, i have only been testing the demo and can't quite get 16x forced through drivers but with 4x AA with edge detect and adaptive AA on i can get that sort of fps on high settings.

maybe something is wrong and the settings ain't being applied properly but why so sceptical?

is that not possible? i mean if there playing at 1680x1050 or less i would probably think it could.
