Upgrading Motherboard without reformating?

Hi im going to be upgrading my motherboard but I dont want to reformat my computer. Is there anyway to do this?.

Im thinking of using this method http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824125/en-us, will this work?. Any other suggestions? and what are the risks?

You did your homework.

The information you found is correct, under "Replace a failed motherboard" and should work the first time. Don't miss the fine print at the bottom, need to install a few things when completed, and don't forget the new motherboard chipset drivers, audio, etc.
