Is Comet Tail Dust damage to Hard drives?

With the high incident of hard drive failures related to the meteor shower of the last couple of months? I have had 2 drive die within a couple of weeks on my work computer, the second hd was in use for only a week or two. 4 friends laptop hd's die and the one in my Dishnetwork DVR die.

Is comet dust finer than cigarette smoke particulates ? Because contrary to advice I smoked around computers for years and never lost a new hard drive yet. A few secondhand ones have failed but they would wouldn't they ?

No I think comet dust is one for the tinfoil hat brigade.
