How does bandwidth work? Is the basic 1G of bandwith by second or by hour? Are you charged by how much bandwidth you use in one second, one hour, or does it accumulate every second you use it? If you are gaming how hard is it to go over 1G per month at say 2 hours a day of gaming?

Usually service providers impose bandwidth limits per month. So for your basic 1GB of bandwidth would be the max in a month.
1GB is not much for a month, for broadband connections that are always on your computer is usually downloading something and it is very easy to go over a 1GB limit.
For perspective, a single 45min show on a TV channel's catch-up service would be about 300-400 MB (0.3-0.4 GB), so would take up around a third of your monthly allowance just for one show.

I would suggest finding a package that offers "unlimited" bandwidth
