Please Help to Select CPU ! Urgent

Hi All,

I have 2 selections regarding Intel Core 2 Quad processors.
1st one is q9550 2.83 12MB L2 cpu.
2nd one is Q9450 2.66 12MB L2 cpu.

i need to run more Microsoft virtual servers.

Which CPU i want to use.How many difference between both CPU s ?
Price difference is $110

Please advice.

well if you dont mind overclocking and would rather save some money just go with the q9450, and overclock it to 3ghz (note, you will need a good heatsink, something much better than the stock cooler) and it will run better than the q9550 at stock speeds.

there won't be any significative difference so go for q9450 and with the $110 you can get more RAM for the VMs.

I do not know where you get the $100 difference between the Q9550 and Q9450. Both are listed for the same price at NewEgg.

These post always kinda crack me up. Why not just pick the one that fits in your budget. If it's for work, don't overclock. In any case, you probably won't feel the difference between the two. It probably takes benchmarking to tell. Read that as "You can't go wrong, you'll like it either way".

You may want to at least consider looking into a Phenom or waiting for the Denab or Intels i7. From what I gather(I dont run muliple VMS myself) the AMDs do very well in that area.

The Q9550 seems the better choice because it's not much more than the Q9450. If you live in the US, you have to be an idiot to get the Q9450 since the Q9550 is the same exact price on Newegg.

Most of them talking about Newegg.But newegg dosent ship to sri lanka.That is my prob.
In Sri lanka price difference is 113$ Now.

If the difference is that much get the 9450 the extra 170mhz isnt worth it.

As ealfaro suggests, use the extra to get some more RAM for the VM's
