Ok here is my current system:

antec 900
q6600 2.4
4 gb of mushkin pc6400
BFG 8800gt oc
Intel DG33tl mother board ( i know its crap )
and an 700watt psu

I run Vista and Unbuntu

I just ordered an QX6850

1st I know the motherboard is capable of 1066mhz fsb on the QX6850 is 1333 so would it work with my current motherboard? and if it would how much performance am I losing?

2nd will all my other components work with it?

3rd Is this going to be a noticeable difference in performance?

4th Could you recommend a motherboard for me im not much of a gamer on my pc but i do alot like video encoding and such.

thank you for your time

I don't know if that MB supports QX6850. Get the latest BIOS from support and read the readme to see which CPUs it supports.

Try a GA-EP45-DS3R, for example. Not too expensive, lots of features, lots of SATA ports. A single PCI-E 2.0 slot, but you don't need SLI or CF anyway.

Thanks for your help someone on craigslist said they would sell a barely used evga 780i for 100 what do you think of that board? Apparently they had a death in the family and they are selling all their stuff pretty cheap.

If the board is intact, $100 is a very good price for it. Regular price at newegg for a new one with warranty is $240. It is a good MB and I even found a happy reviewer using it with a QX6850.

It's also a nice match for your case/PSU/existing 8800GT because it means you can add another 8800GT later if you change your mind and become a gamer.

The only problem is, can you trust these people? What if some cretin spilled drinks on it, or fried it while trying to overclock, and that part about the death in the family is a lie? I really don't know. I guess if you can afford a QX6850 you can afford to gamble $100...

1 EVGA 680I? THIS ONE IS 75.00
1 EVGA 780I THIS ONE IS 100.00
3 ABIT iP35 PRO THESE ARE 50.00 EACH
1 ABIT ip35-e THIS ONE IS 30.00

This what she quoted me I guess her husband was big into building pcs and she has boxes an receipts and shes local, Ill have to take a look. i like to buy stuff new but this is a good deal I think.

All right, it sounds like a legitimate seller.

The IP35 Pro used to be one of the best motherboards out there. Lots of awards. I must have recommended it hundreds of times myself, and nobody has cursed me for it :)

$50 is a very nice price (new, it used to be $175 when newegg was selling it, or $125 on sale). It does support the QX6850, up to 4GHz with a good cooler. (http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f68/abit-ip35-pro-extreme-qx6850-110116.html)

It has PCI-E 1 slots, it doesn't support SLI, and the second slot works at only 4x in Crossfire. That is, it's a poor choice for a gamer, especially one who already has an nVidia card. However, if you're satisfied with your 8800GT and have no plans to add another 8800GT, then the aBit IP35 Pro is perfect for you.

Hopefully you get all the accessories, i.e. SATA cables and so on.

Do you think you could briefly to a pro vs cons on the 780i vs the IP35 also I have the Scythe infinity cooler would it fit on on both boards?

Thanks a bunch

Advantages of the eVGA 780i:

1. PCI-E 2.0, 3 slots. Ideal for a high-powered gaming machine.
Importance: small. Why: 8800GT doesn't support Tri-Sli, you can at most add a second card, not a third. Also, PCI-E 1 has plenty of bandwidth for the 8800GT already. Also, you said you're not much of a gamer, so you shouldn't need even a second card.

Advantages of the IP35 Pro:
1. Intel chipset, usually less prone to bugs and better overclocker than nVidia's.
Importance: small. Why: both are good overclockers, and your CPU can be set to a multiplier of 10.

2. 2 eSATA ports and 3 PCI slots (the eVGA has no eSATA and only 2 PCI slots).
Importance: depends on what kind of external hard disks and PCI cards you have. For example I do need 3 PCI slots for tuner, modem and X-Fi.

I believe the Infinity does fit on the IP35 Pro, because I found a guy who has both:

Same for the eVGA 780i:
