WD HDD error when vista fresh install

ok i just finshed putting my system together i have my copy of windows i put it in it goes all good untill i get to the harddrive selector i can see my hardrive i created a partition and formatted it with the tools they had than i tried to click next and it came up with " Windows is unable to find system volume that meets it criteria for installation" than playing around with the options i think its because i have to no driver device for the harddrive ive spent the last hour on my old computer looking for a driver device no luck

my hardrive is a WD 500gb WD500AACS

motherboard is Asus M4A785-M Motherboard

is it not compatible maybe even tho vista picks it up

ty for the welcome and ya that was it my friend gave me a burnt copy that was to scratched and it wouldnt read right now its up and running
