I’m considering ordering one of these OC Station units for my new Crossfire III mobo, but I’m having very little luck finding any consumer reviews (actual customer feedback). Newegg still has not received one review on them.
Please do not post to tell me it is a waste of money and I should just use my bios for overclocking. I am a gadget freak and I really don’t care about all that. The thing looks freakin cool and I want it. –That is unless I hear that it is a piece of 5hit.
What I would like to know is how well it actually functions, whether or not it actually IS “pure hardware overclocking” and not just an exterior set of knobs for Asus AI Suite or Tweakit, and people’s general experience with using it. Thanks!
yes it changes the bios settings with the hardware at any time ie during boot in windows or even while playing a game but it cant change mem timings or ratios as this needs a reboot
the one bad point is you cant change any memory speed or timings as this needs a reboot but other than that you can do all your bios oc'ing at any time even when booting into windows
Imo, DON'T OC from Windows, etc. I highly recommend you try OCing in BIOS.
Wow! Perhaps I should turn my caps lock on when I post. I appreciate your answer, but it really has nothing to do with what I'm asking.
This is what Asus claims:
Quote :
Pure hardware-based overclocking support
I'm trying to find out to what extent this is true. To say "Pure hardware-based" would imply that the tool is not software or OS based, but possibly a real-time link to the actual bios settings. It is, after all, a highly proprietary device that only works with ROG mobos. That being said, I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that the OC Station may actually have no interface with Windows (with the exception of "CPU Level Up" and "Asus EPU" which require Windows applications with which to interact).

^That's understandable. I feel the same way with regards to actual Windows based OC programs like AI Suite that comes with Asus boards. They are just plain unstable. Sorry if I was kind of pricky about your answer; sometimes I get ornery while I sit here at work with virtually nothing to do. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to try and help a guy out.
Regarding the OC Station though, it's just a really cool gadget. I love gadgets like this one! LCD screen, big shiny knob, photo slide show... I don't know, I just get a H.O. tinkering with gadgetry.
personally id go for better cooling im hooked i started with a thermaltake WC kit temps were Crap, so replaced it all with a custom loop the loop wasn't but the temps were Crap, then bought phase change and still want lower temps even now, might build a auto cascade if i get the cash
I've had pretty good luck with a $36 Xigmatek s1283. PII 955 to 3.85Ghz; Prime95 for 12 hours never broke 48 deg C. What are trying to squeeze out of your C2Quad?
ye my cooler cost like $800 and to make it any better would be another $1500, my cooler has a max of 200w any more and you fry your cpu, but atm my temps never get above -30.
