4870/GX2 or other??

Im stuck in my decision for my new build....
Im confused on the current best card

I had my heart set on the HD 4870 but the prices of nvidia have plummeted

So the question is should i get a 4870 for $250 or the GX2 which is now about $280. In benchies its faster (even more than the 280) but i kno some complain of slow downs and such....

any suggestions on what to buy?
(Id love an x2 but i think $550 is a little extreme)

More about : 4870 gx2

Maybe he meant to have 2 of those. But then again, it's confusing :p

And with those news about defective chips from nVidia, i don't know... Besides, DX10.1 games might be getting closer :o

Then again... Again... It's fuss and nothing certain XD

Get the 9800GX2 and hope u don't get a fried card in the short run if u only want $/perf in games.

Good Luck!

Esop!

GX2 is the way to go atm with its price drop (evga at 280 if i remember)

Performance wise, it's the way to go, at least for single card.

Of course, there is always the 4870x2, if you don't mind the $550 price tag.

haha i wish....but for that performance gain to me its not worth it.

Ill save the $200 and get a nice card in a year that destroys anything now.
And for single card...i doubt ill CF 4870s, just not worth it. Again ill just buy a new card instead. It seems silly to me to extend old hardware :kaola:

now i just need a nice OCing board....(maximus 2 formula!??!?! :D )

Just get a cheap p45 board for $100 or so. It overclocks like a $200 x38/48 board. :p

Something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

no i want something good....i went cheap with my first pc and i realized it was a mistake. A nice $1000-1500 is a good place to go...
Plus my dad paid for my case and PSU so that totally lowers price

I want to take my Q9550 to the max i want a nice board maybe P5Q Deluxe if not Maximus 2 (i love the black though)

Trust me, there's no overclocking performance difference among different brand p45 boards. This is a major difference between current p45 and old p35 lineup, where performance difference can be significant.

But if it buys you happiness. The go for it. It's not like there's downside to a more expensive p45 board other than price. :p
