I am trying to upgrade this old system for my daughter and i need some informations. can a intel pentium 4 prescott (800 Mghz) run on a 400/533 fsb motherboard?

The first question is what socket has the Pentium 4 (i.e. "LGA 775")? It has to be the same as the MB.
The second is what motherboard do you have? (you must check the manufacturer site for a list of supported CPU's). I doubt that is there a BIOS upgrade wich can support your CPU........
In theory, the CPU will step back to what the FSB can give, but it's the BIOS that will do that.

Check on the "Supported processors" link, and find out if your CPU is on that list. I hope it is, because if it's not you will not be able to use it. Sorry.
