Do you remember what you were doing when the drive failed? Any particular noise coming from the HD, such as a clicking sound?

Well, let me explain the last time i used the hd device was a few days ago, in 1/4/10, when i tried to use it for transfering some files from my local disk, my pc accepted the device as a usb memory stick, after this I tried four times to open it, and when I've managed, the files I' ve looked seemed to be empty, but if get to the properties menu the hd had 561Gb of data. There was no sound, no warm up or such a thing...

Another thing you should know; I've tried to operate the hd in a different pc (working with Ubuntu) and I failed this time too, but for some reason when I tried to disconect the electric power wire from the devise the devise was working for a few seconds and then nothing
