Hey guys,

Finally I'm done choosing the parts for my own desktop (almost)
I will use it for gaming mainly and downloading and surfing etc...

This is the list of parts I am thinking to order this week:
Q9550
mobo: I have no clue!, preferably capable of crossfire and OC'ing
Samsung Syncmaster 226BW
Coolermaster 690
Samsung Spinpoint F1 640GB
Corsair 4GB DDR2 1066 Dominator
Corsair 750W PSU
Sapphire HD4870 (single, maybe I'll add one later)
Xigmatek HDT-S1284 Achilles
Vista 64-bit Premium/ultimate
Samsung S203N (or something like that)
and a mouse/keyboard/boxes (some good ones out there I should take?)

So, actually the only real problem is the motherboard, because I have no clue wich one to take, I would like to overclock as much as possible with this system... (or decent, I never OC'd)

Could you tell me what you think about this build? and give some corrections/tips/hints??

thanks!!

so you plan to crossfire? (x38 or x48 mobo will be fine here). I would get the WD 640, i don't know how well the samsung drive is. Everything else looks good.

No, I don't plan, but if the mobo makes it possible it would be nice,
I'm now playing stupid games on a 5 year old desktop/videocard
So the single HD4870 will be a HUGE improvement, so maybe (probably) I don't even need a second 4870
So I'm ok if its a good mobo but without crossfire...
P45 also have crossfire not?

They told me the F1 has a bigger platterdensity (don't know what's the name of it in english) so it reads more data per rotation.. (I don't know anything about it myself :p)

If you want Crossfire, only one viable way: a X48 board like the GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 or ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA.

I'd like to point-out that if you were to get a P45 board (no crossfire, but 100-150$ less), switch to DD2-800 (good one for overclocking, ~45$ less), you would probably be 50-100$ away from a 4870x2 card (coming this week I think). I never was a fan of "paying more now in case I want to pay more tomorrow" :-/.

My point is get a P45 MB, but choose now between a 4870 or a 4870x2. You can also drop the dominator RAM for good DDr2-800.

why drop the Ram?? and like for example the P5Q pro can also use corssfire, or is that not true?
I don't know, what is the difference between 2 crossfire cards or 1 double card?

are there any parts that will bottleneck the system?
or parts that are too good and I cannot make full use of it because of the other parts??

Reply to vsdagama

ok lets clear things up here the P45 has crossfire and i know that is in the P5Q Pro board but intstead of two slots running both at X16 they each run at X8 which is still better than one card but not as good as the X48 which both run at X16. hope this helps you

Owk, but the question is do I need crossfire?
And that question I can't answer yet, because I cant' predict how it's going to look like with one card... (I'm now playing on a 5 year old or even older desktop!)
And does X38 has crossfire?

anyone?
I have to give a list of components tomorrow to a friend of my dad who works in a computer shop (-30!!)
So please help me out with the mobo! :p

The 226BW is 1680x1050 so you don't NEED Crossfire. With a single 4870 card, you will probably be able to play Crysis (example based on worst-case-scenario) at all High setting.

Thanks! I didn't know that,
So 2 video cards are used to cover each the half of a bigger screen?
And not really needed for a 22 inch??
If that's true, I just need a decent mobo with good OC capability...
any?

So thats a mobo that hasnt full xfire, but will be good on getting my Q9550 to 3.6Mhz+ ??

The P5Q Pro is a good quality/price board. I think you can't be wrong with it.
