I bought my e4400 off of ebay a while back. I think its a dud as it will not overclock past 2.8 Ghz. (and yes, its an L2)
I was thinking about buying a q6600 and clocking that up to minimize the bottleneck with my 4870 that arrived today.
My main question; Is it worth it?

Thanks guys.

i think it's safe to say that the Q6600 is far better than the E4400. i would say it would be worth it as long as you overclock it. you shouldn't have any trouble doing so.

depends on what you're doing though. Multi-tasking? q6600 ftw. I went from an e6300 to a q6600 G0 and i couldn't have been happier. Just make sure you get the G0 stepping on your q6600.

I don't really see the point of the q8200. It has less cache, and a higher fsb for 50 dollars more? Nah.

I'm not sure about the fsb wall of my motherboard. Would i get a decent overclock with an e8400? how often does it go to 4Ghz~ and at what voltage?

BTW, just installed my 4870, OC'd to 790 core and got 12112. Thats about 1012 more points than the average e8400 and 4870 user so im happy. I think i will stick with this cpu at 2.75Ghz until Windows 7 is released.

Thanks for your input!

Is it? i have heard of people getting good OC's with the g33. I figured it was my CPU. I lapped it yesterday as it was hitting 60 celcious stock. After the lap, my temps really didn't go down. And my heat spreader was super concave. this is with a decent cooler too. BTF90.
I think my cpu is to blame.

I like my taskbar like that because it makes more sense to me and is more efficient. 90% of the buttons I regularly press on all of my windows and applications are at the top. I like to have the taskbar up there too. Less mouse travel. Also, a day w/o a mouse, is a good day. I love doing all of my work by keyboard. Its one of the great things that makes PC better than Mac.

that pretty much sums it up.

I would think so, but you make me wounder the last couple of days. They dont just idle @ 60 all of the sudden. You just changed mobos, so I assume the paste is wrong or the HS aint tight.

I mean come on now. Mixing ram, and changing mobos because of V-droop?

I paid $90. thats not that cheap.
That link makes me want to cry.
I might have fixed it though. Give me a sec
Yup. Took it all apart and riped out the cmos battery. reset the cmosand put the battery back in. Waited about a minute and put stuff back together and Viola!
Also did a BSEL mod to run 266 fsb stock. Hopefully that gets me some more OC headroom?
