Hello,

Ive been trying to isolate the problem (off and on) Ive been having for a while now. Let me start off with the basic specs of my pc:

evga 680i mainboard
2 gig corsair xms2 8500
evga 8800gtx
e6700 processor
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W power supply
2x western digital raptors raid 0
soundblaster x-fi music edition

no overclocking

Basically what happens is that the pc will completely freeze. No mouse movement, cant cntrl+alt+del or anything. Here is what I have done. First I ran memtest and got no errors. I've tried 3 different video drivers to no avail. I went ahead and reformatted and installed vista (had xp before) and still get the same issue. It can happen while gaming, watching video, or just sitting at idle. Very odd. Ive been told the memory could be good but might not be compatible with the mobo so ive ordered some OCZ memory that was listed on the evga website as compatible with the mobo. That is on its way. Do you think its possible that its the memory? Would a faulty gpu produce this freezing problem? Im at an extreme loss here. The only thing i can figure is that it must be hardware related to due the complete reinstall of a different OS and all new drivers, etc.

is this a brand new system that you just put together? or did you just recently upgrade a part or two, i.e. your ram? if you just recently put it together, my first suggestion would be to update the bios.

First off all, excuse me for my english (feel free to correct my gramatical and/or typing errors).
Some time ago, I used to repair computers as a secondary job.
And one time I encontered the same situation that you have now. I found that booting de computer in "safe mode" the freeze didn't happened.
At last I discovered that 3 of the capacitors near de cpu (voltage regulator) were damaged.
I'm not saying that this is your motherboard's case, but it's possible that is really a hardware problem.
Try booting in safe mode, and wait. Please tell me your experience.
Good luck,

it was the memory!! so weird since all mem tests came back negative. guess the mobo just doesnt like it. replaced with evga reccomended OCZ memory and its running like a top. thanks.
