I have an x2 5600 (2.8ghz), 2GB ddr800, 8600gt (lol), with XP Pro on a 20" monitor (1680x1050). I play cod4, assassin's creed, some cs:s, and some dod:s and want to be able to play far cry 2 on high settings.

I want to run them all on 1680x1050 with the graphics settings at maximum.
hd 4870 or hd 4850?
I know the 4870 is better, but at this resolution is it really worth ~$90 or is will the 4850 get 65+ fps on them all anyway.
I'm not looking to win benchmarks, just to please the eyes.

far cry 2 seems like it going to require some power to run. to play on high settings at 1680x1050 i would recommend a 4870 u would probably have headroom to even put aa. this is just a guess no one knows how the game runs.

the official specs for far cry 2 aren't too demanding, but how well you'll be able to play the game with the minimum required remains to be seen. i would say get the 4850. it's a great deal and you can find them for $170. you definitely wont be getting 100fps, but honestly whats the point in getting it that high? more for bragging rights than anything else.

This isn't as difficult as it's being made out to be.

To save money get the 4850, great performing card.

If you have a little more to spend and want something more furtureproof then go for the 4870. (dual slot cooling and gddr5 makes a difference)
