The problem is i can only get the fsb on this CPU to run @ 266 now.The Motherboard is a Asrock K7S8X.It used to be ok
with the old Graf card .The new card is a Radeon 1650 pro 512 .If i set the jumper pins to 333 it now it it comes out at 100 fsb ,1250 cpu speed .The CPU is the one with the 333 fsb. Iv now set it for 266 ,1667 CPU .It did run @ 2087. Its got
1GB of Ram. .Any help getting this back up to its old speed i would be gratefull.

Remove the cpu cooler, clean the gunk off, then regrease and reseat it.

If the cpu gets hot and the system lock up the bios drops the fsb as a precaution ... you then have to go back into the bios and change it before saving and rebooting.

A couple of my older systems did that from time to time.

Check your cpu temps as a follow up.

Hope this helps.

Hi my friend
Iv given this ago & no luck. CPU goes up to 45 max.The fsb on
the motherboard is by jumpers not the bios .It was ok till i put in the new
graphics card .Would this cause the fsb to drop. The computer works ok,but
not at the speed its supposed to.

You havn't swapped the ram at all have you? Might be dirty so take it out and clean the gold pins with an eraser (carefully) then brush the slots with a toothbrush and reseat the ram back into the slots making sure the edge retainers click in.

1250 = 100 X 12.5
1667 = 133 X 12.5
2083 = 166 X 12.5 This is what you need for sure.

Yeah there was also a 16 X version but it does not look like yours.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/manual.asp?Model=K7S8X%20R3.0&s=462

FSB_SEL0 - jumper 1&2
FSB_SEL1 - jumper 1&2 selects manual 166 FSB

FID0 FID1 FID2 FID3 FID4
1-2 1-2 2-3 2-3 2-3 = 12.5 multi

Go into the advanced section of the bios and set the cpu host to - By Jumper

Check actual frequency is now displayed correctly (166).

hope this helps.

Hi
When you use FSB-SEL1-jumper1&2, you now end up with 1250 not 2083.
It was ok till i changed the graphics card. My CPU is locked @13.5 i think.
Would it be easyer to just try to get a 2600 CPU with a 266 fsb ,this would give me 2083. I still cannot work out why its doing it .Thanks for all your help. The Ram is still the same.
