Hi All,

I just picked up 2 HP 2207h monitors today, and without thinking brought them home - forgetting that my current video card (Gigabyte GeForce 7600 GT) has DVI hookups. I went and purchased a pair of adapters for HDMI, but the hookups are so close on the card that they don't fit next to each other - so I am leaning towards grabbing a new video card.

I don't really game all that much (sometimes) and the screens are mainly going to be used for web design / work. Can you guys recommend a card with 256MB that is reasonably priced that can handle 2 HDMI monitors? If it matters, my motherboard is a P4P 800 Deluxe.

Thanks for any help...

That board only has AGP, so your only option is the AGP 3850 really.

Am I missing something? I looked up that card and I don't see any HDMI ports on the back - just DVI like I have now....?

They use an adapter. Here's a picture of what it looks like.

They actually use native HDMI, so you do get the HDCP support and sound pass-through.

Another choice is the 2600XT, which offers a bit better performance than your 7600GT and supports HDMI natively in the same way the 3850 does. It also passes encoding/decoding of video to the GPU.

The HDMI thingy in computer video cards is not like on TVs...

You get an adaptor from your card manufacturer (or u can buy one) that you plug into the S-Video a-like (4pin or 6pin i think) output connector in the video card, it's the round little one.

Esop!

I think the adaper route is the best way to go.

Is there such thing as slim adapters? The 2 I got from BestBuy don't fit next to eachother on the back of my graphics card (7600GT)....

Just thinking about this - even if I had 2 DVI monitor inputs there is no way they would fit on the back of that card (at least the DVI cable I have for my old one) - it's way too wide to fit two because the ports on the back of the card are so close. Surely there are cables, and therefore adapters that are slimmer?

Here are the adapters I tried that won't fit side by side: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspag [...] 0262781843

Here is the back of the card itself:

Can anyone chime in on this? Either there are some slimmer DVI connectors out there or this is the worst port design ever.....

You really should have a problem hooking up to adapters. I'm currently using two standard ATI HDMI adapters and they're working great.

Thanks for the link!

I guess it is just the cable / adapters I have that are so wide. They are Monster brand (and it appears monster size too!)

Im sorry you paid for Monster branded stuff.

Yeah, ordinarily I wouldn't - but that is all Best Buy had in the way of adapters for DVI to HDMI (big surprise huh?)

Ive noticed that in Bestbuy. However they do sell chepeaper stuff, Generic....RCA...but they intentionally "hide" it, or put it in with something that has nothing to do with video.

Check out Newegg, or hell even walmart if you need actual HDMI cables. Ive gotten a few RCA branded HDMI cables from walmart for $20 a pop, cant complain.

Wal Mart is great for HDMI deals.

They usually carry Belkin, Phillips and RCA.

The PS3 cables are often the cheapest medium quality cables at a retail store too and a good 9ft length, I have two.

Of course if shopping online there are many more options, but hard to compare fit/shape of what you have now with what they offer via the web.
