i just want to take off spyware and pop ups

you should use firefox browser, that will block pop ups.
you should not use any free security program that claims it will block pop ups. This type of software will fill your computer with spy ware.
you should use Norton or Panda security, and avoid all free security programs. Scanning with Norton or Panda will disinfect spyware an a daily basis. Free security does not provide the level of protection that you need.
