I've currently got a desktop with Windows Vista 32. I've got a 8800GTS driving two 24" monitors at 1920x1200. I just ordered a Dell 3008WFP, and am in need of another video card to drive it. I was really liking the Radeon 4870 HD, and then I read that I won't be able to utilize that setup in Vista because of the different drivers. So my question is whether or not I can add a 280 GTX to my setup. Will the drivers work with Vista so that I can still use the 8800GTS for the 24" monitors while the 280 GTX drives the 30" at 2560x1600?
Thanks!
I don't think you will be able to do this. AFAIK, you have to use a driver package that is good for all cards that you have in the computer.
After doing a quick check on nvidia.com, I noticed that the GT2x0 Series uses a different driver package than the Forceware. Given that, my believe is that you will be able to run up to a 9 series card, but not a GT2x0 card.
Does a 9800GX2 works for you? Should be the top of the line before the GT2x0 series.
I thought about the 9800GX2, but I assumed it would draw a lot more power, but maybe I'm wrong? That's probably the best way to go though! Thanks for the reply!
