My new build was working perfectly for two days. I used it this morning and there was no problems. But when I got home I tried to turn on my computer on and all of the fans started then they stopped. Then they started again. Then stopped. Then started. And continues going off and on until I turn off the PSU.

I checked the cables going from the power button to the MB and nothing looks wrong. Anyone know what this problem is?

Here are the specs:

Sounds like the PSU.

The old psu also broke but no fans were spinning. The one in the system now was just replaced by newegg. I have also used the computer in different outlets.

I didn't find any quality reviews right off, although I hear there is one at [H]OCP.

You should probably check all the modular plugs. I read that they can fool you.

I suppose it could be a short somewhere else.

You should probably pull everything off except CPU and RAM, see if it will stay on at least.

I bought my first one about 7/22 which was before all of the reviews saying that they died in a few days started showing up. Could it be possible that the manufacturer just made a bad batch?

Certainly. There is some debate about the parts found inside... but no one is saying it's a BAD PSU. It's basically overpriced for the parts used to make it.

You can buy little PSU testers fairly cheaply. They do not tell you a great deal, but they can tell you if you are getting power in the right approximate voltage. There is much more to a PSU than that, but it's not a bad tool to have.

You should eliminate the possibility of a short somewhere else. Ideally this is done with the MB outside the case, on a box or something... but only if you are confident about not shocking yourself.

Just strip it down and see if the PSU stays on... if so one of your other new parts is shorting out, or you have a short because something is touching your MB that should not.

Such as what? Because that could be the problem.

Also thank you for your help.

Did you use the standoffs to screw the motherboard in place? There should be no other contact on the back side of the MB. No loose screws or standouts not aligned with a screw hole.

Any bare metal part touching something it should not?

Did you apply so much thermal paste that it leaked down the side and made contact with something?

Drop a screw somewhere while building and then forgot about it?

Could a wire connected to the MB or CPU have come in contact with a fan so that the insulation was stripped down and wires come together?

Those are a few possibilities.

I used standoffs. No paper washers

I don't see any bare metal touching something it shouldn't

No thermal paste leaked

I don't hear any screws

Some of the wires are near fans but I don't see any cuts.

Any extra standoffs making contact somewhere they should not?

And really, you should disconnect everything. Leave in one stick of ram, the CPU and cooler. See if it will stay on. It may beep because there is no video card, that's a good thing.
