shouldnt the 780i run an e8400 easily w/o the latest bios update?

i mean like run the e8400 at full speed easily.. the 780i supports 45nm architecture! it should run like an e8400 should run with an out-of-the-box 780i right?

Not necessarily, IIRC the 780i was released before the 45nm intels were. Because of that they may need a BIOS update to support them.

^ yep. If you got the board before, or shortly after the 45nm CPU's were released, it likely does not contain the BIOS information to recognize the CPU. Only a BIOS update can make it work.

the 780i will support it out of the box unless its a 780i board that has been sitting around 6 months or longer lol
