Hi heres my spec,

Q6600 running at 3.0ghz 1.5v
6GB DDR2 6400 running at 666mhz - Cheap budget ram
LEADTEK 9800 GX2 Overclocked to max settings core- 750 mem - 1079 shader - 1901
300 GB SATA II WESTERN DIGITAL HD
10 PC FANS
ARTIC FREEZER 7
ASROCK PENRYN1600-110DB SLI 650I CHIPSET
750W CORSAIR PSU

Memory timings:
CL 6
TRCD 5
TRP 5
TRAS 16
TRC 21
CR 2T

Right I think I have finally got my system stable at 3.0, it wont go beyond that . Anyway here are my 3dmark06 scores:

2.4GHZ NON OC 9800 GX2 - 12146
2.4GHZ OC 9800 GX2 - 11916

3.0GHZ NON OC 9800 GX2 - 14010 CPU TEMS AT 3.0GHZ 100% LOAD AROUND 50 Degrees
3.0GHZ OC 9800 GX2 - 14429

Im sure that these scores are bad, can someone give their adive/comments, not sure whats wrong if anything.

Looks fine to me. The biggest impacter these days are the real high overclocks on CPUs. Als oyou ram is running 333, where as others are running the ram and FSB at 400-550. Obviously they will score more then you.

Buying a good GPU isnt enough to get 18000+

I think it looks good for your hardware but if you could list individual scores we could have a look see if was due to the cpu/fsb or the GPU.

Me thinks your OC limiting factor is a bit over zealous desire for a large quantity of memory. It is much easier and less stressful on your mobo to OC and synchronize 2GB of RAM than 4GB of RAM, let alone 6GB. Try just 2GB, I'm assuming 1GBx2. Its worth a try.

Remember, unless your running 64bit XP or Vista, over 2GB or RAM is left mostly unused by the OS.

with my rig in sig, everything at stock, I get about 13600. Usually 3DMark takes huge advantages of an overclocked quad, and dual card systems. You should be getting at least 16000

Hi, is it ok for my cpu to be at 1.5v, ive took it down to 1.475 and ive just rab 3dmarks06 and my score has gone down to 11546 thats at 3.0ghz with overclocked 9800 gx2, the only thing i have change is the cpu voltage.

Right, I have bumped my cpu voltage back to 1.5 which i consider to be alot, temps are ok tho. Here are my individual scores from 3dmarks06

SM2.0 - 5168

HDR/SM3 - 7091

CPU - 4027

dude it can be so much ****.. drivers, bios, ram, powersupply, who knows. try everything to get that score up. i got a 8800gts, e6300, and 2gb ram an i can get about 10k when i overclock my cpu to 3ghz, ur score is deffintly low.

That performance is horrible. I get 15.5k with the same Q6600 on an aging 8800gts. That's one g92 gpu instead of your 9800gx2's 2.

Ram can't be a problem. 3dmark06 is very light on ram. And ram speed matters very little. As long as there's enough to aviod using page file off hdd, it won't affect performance.

Dude, 1.5v for 3.0ghz? that's extreme. You can run 3.0ghz at 1.35v, probably less. If you're going to punish your cpu with that much voltage, you might as well take advantage and push for 3.5-3.6ghz. I've got a high vid q6600 and it requires a vcore of 1.46v to run stable at 3.6ghz.

The voltage of your cpu doesn't affect it's processing speed, it just facilitates the chip to run at a certain frequency. You shouldn't be running your chip at a higher voltage than required to keep it stable at a certain clock setting. I guarantee you can run your cpu @3.4ghz (probably 3.5) with that voltage, and the temps will be almost the same. I would seriously back down that voltage if you're only going to run 3gz.

Hi and thanks , I cant run at anything lower than 1.5v, it just wont work, i get errors in prime 95, put it back up and its fine. Really i dunno whats going on here, its really annoying me. Cany get anyhigher than 3 ghz, if i try 3.2 it gets prime 95 errors straight away, if i go higher than 3.2 it wont boot, i had to play with my ram timings to get no errors in prime 95 at 3ghz, cant do it for anything higher, what motherboard have you got, you are getting 3.6ghz which is good, think it my motherboard tbh, its got 650i chipset. Gonna buy a new motherboard and some corsair ram then overclock cpu to 3.6

The 650i chipset is the problem. It cannot handle the oc. The forum was full of people complaining why their q6600 does not oc much on 650i/680i, back when people still brought those. Use the search function, and you'll realize that most people can't get more than 2.8ghz on q6600. You're lucky to get 3ghz. Also try to have cpuz window open when running prime95, note the horrible vdroop the chipset cause. Your 1.5v only applies at idle.

Hi and thanks for reply, selling my motherboard, getting a new one this friday :), what would you suggest, i would like to get 3.6ghz out of my processor and would like to have 4-6gb ram, i only got £100 max budget, please list some motherboard which are proven to oc the q6600 to 3.6 easily. thanks for your support

3.6ghz is no guarentee on a q6600, but 3.4 most likely is. Any mid ranged p35/p45 motherboard will do for you, and should fit in your price range. Personally I like the gigabyte boards, but Asus is just as good. the GA P35 DS3L is cheap, and OC's well. So long as you don't need raid support. If you're really going for 3.6, you need a new cooler. That arctic freezer won't keep up much past 3ghz on a q6600.

A p45 board cost around $100, about half your budget through exchange rates. UK prices may vary, but probably won't be twice as much. It's rated to run at 1600mhz fsb natively, which means the board itself runs at stock for 3.6ghz oc in q6600.

Keep in mind the graphics card performance problem may still remain. It may be due to bad driver or bad card, and may not have to do with the motherboard at all.
