Hi. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I just built my first rig in a long time, and other than a bad HDD, it worked out fantastic! I do have a Q9550 cpu and a Radeon HD 4870 video card. I think I read that the fan may need to be ramped up a bit for the 4870, but am unsure.
Is there a program I can use to check the temperatures of these and adjust the fan(s) if necessary? Also, how hot is too hot for these?
For CPU, I like to use Core Temperature for quick display, and CPU-Z for more in depth information. Both are very light weight and freeware. Speed Fan is good too, but I really prefer the first two.
For your video card, there is a program called GPU-Z that I just downloaded and is great. It is only a monitor though, and if you want to control your fan you may need something like Riva Tuner. I haven't used it personally, as i have an EVGA card and they have their own tool based off of the Riva Tuner.
you can use the evga precision tool for almost all nvidia cards i use it for my bfg 8800gt oc card btw it's amazing best thing ever. for ati try riva tuner i guess.
