Alright so i am building a computer for ebay. i was wondering since the board has 3 pci express slots can i use the bottom two pci-e slots so that i can use the pci express x1 for a xfi sound card?

It's up to the MoBo actually if u can do that. For what i know, the upper PCIe x16 is usually marked as the default one for video cards and if u go the SLi way, then the first and second one are the ones.

So, if u can find a MoBo that has a PCIe x1 on the bottom, go for it, since it's usually the way i tell you. If someone knows a MoBo that can do what the OP wants, then i'll be enlighted as well, lol.

Esop!

usually they make the 2 main sli slots the 1st and the 3rd slot. That way you have more room between the cards, and less heat being pumped into each other.

Its alot more convinient if they are spaced out for user I believe, it certainly helped out with my quad, since I don't think there would be any breathing space if there wasn't that much room LMAO

Sorry for not supplying you guys with the mobo, i thought it would be a constant for all sli boards. Its the 790i evga board. Anyone know of a better board? Keep in mind i hate asus. The strikers have soooo many problems i hear

Oh and iam thinking ill just get them the xfi elite instead of the titanium. Its better anyways. They seriously need to just banish the pci slot. Or even better come up with a better secondary expansion idea. Oh and i have another question. 2 9800x2 are better than 2 gtx 280's right? also way cheaper

yea I'd agree, I'm getting a new monitor soon, I game at 1280x1024 LMAO. So all my frames stay above 30 fps (actually well above, more like 60) Except crysis which doesn't drop lower than 25:)

The 9800 GX2s are only better than the 280's in games that scale with sli. There are a few titles that they do poorly in as a single (2x1) card, and worse in quad sli.

2x 260's will handle even Crysis at 1920x1200 on high. Need a C2D at 3.4 or a quad at 3.2 to give the gpu enough headroom to GO!

2 different reviews, one with QX6850, and another with a phenom, over 15 frames difference at the same res with the same cards.

I have the 790i, and it is 1st and 3rd for sli, I have an x-fi card between the two.

My friend had the MSI P7N Diamond and had nothing but problems with it. He just got the EVGA 132-YW-E178-A1 780i SLI FTW board. He has the PCIe X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty with 2 9800GTXs in SLI. He uses the bottom PCIe slot for the X-Fi.

The EVGA board is very good 780i board.

LOL thats how it works for any sli configuration, even the 2 xs 260s:) The GX2 will show smack down for games 1920x1200 and that use sli (or Nvidia created an sli profile/update for the game). Most games will support SLI/CF since its being more and more used in every day situations.

2 9800 GXs will take on 280 GTXs in sli and 260s mostly in games that love sli, COD4, Crysis, Enemy territory, Stalker etc.

While the other games, Assasin's UT3 and I can go on won't do the GX2 much.

Nah, you'd be better off with a pair of GTX280s. Quad SLI is half baked at best, and it isn't going to get any better.

[strike]Oh yeah, if you're gaming at 1280x1024 SLI isn't going to help you much. No worries though, a single GTX280 will handle pretty much anything you throw at it at that resolution :)[/strike]

Right, I forgot the context of this thread :na: . If this thing is going on ebay two 9800GX2s might not be such a bad idea :p

I've got a 790i Ultra board, and I've got twin GTX280's in SLI.

I'm using the first PCIE-1 slot for PCIE TV tuner card. It fits so unless the audio card you're planning on using is very wide, it should fit in the first PCIE-1 slot. There's not a lot of room between the TV tuner card and the chipset fan, but if you can't fit the fan, you sould be able to fit some other fan that will cool it.

You can see my system at:

SLI "IF" its supported well and its usually nothing but a headach technicly and support on apps wise is only going to help you reach a higher rez tbh. Avoide it and buy a single gpu for the job. There are options. The 280 and the x2 are insane. You will get better performance per $ out of your rig with single gpu atm.
