By today's standars, how good is the zalman cnps 9500 nt still? Is it better than the arctic cooler freezer pro, and possibly all the other smaller coolers than it?

No, the 9500 is an ok cooler, back when it came out it was one of the best coolers... The Freezer Pro is a better cooler IMO, and now it is even better since the Rev. 2 came out with a higher CFM fan.....

Freezer pro is great for the Core 2 lines which are very cool CPUs, but it is terrible for the i7-9xx. However, it should be fine if you are with i7-8xx or i5-750 as they have the new power design and almost as cool as the Core 2 AFAIK.

In fact, someone owns an i7-860 with his idle temperature being significantly cooler than my Core 2 Duo. I was thinking WTF, how can it be possible!

LGA1156 CPUs are amazing!

The new Freezer Pro can cool a 920 just fine. I don't think he will be doing any extreme overclocking.. He should be good for anything around 3.7/3.8Ghz....

or he can look at one of these :

Freezer pro for 3.7/3.8?!!! Even i7-920 D0 version can only do 4.2GHz with the prolimatech which is the best heatsink.

By the way, the better Arctic heatsink, the freezer extreme ver.2, is confirmed to be not so good for i7-9xx OCing.

It might be fine for Core2, i5 and i7-8xx at 3.7GHz though.

That is because you are going by what a website tells you. I know more than 6 users here on Toms that have D0's with Ziggy's, Core Contact's, Freezers old and new, Noctua's and Dark Knights and they all have tolerable temps when running anything between 3.5 to 4.2Ghz. Like I said I doubt the OP will be pushing his CPU that far. Makes no sense to run a D0 at anything past 3.8Ghz unless he is benching...

Of course my CPU runs cooler than a 920 but just so you can get an idea of how an AC Freezer can keep a chip cool..

At 4Ghz my CPU does not even reach 42c under prime load for more than 12 hours. At 3.6Ghz it maxes out at 38c and at 3.1Ghz it wont reach 32c. The Rev.2 beats the old 7 and 64 by a couple of degrees as well...

And like I said, the OP can look at the list from frosty and pick one if he is still undecided....

Really?!

Why would all the peoples I asked tell me that freezer extreme is not as good as it looks like to be? They also said that even the coolermaster v8 is much better than freezer xtreme.

Reply to andy5174

I was thinking to get a freezer xtreme as it is very cheap compared to other coolers, but I changed my mind due to the reason mentioned in the previous thread.

Can you confirm that your friend get reasonable temp(< 75 C IMO) with 3.7GHz i7-920with the freezer pro instead of freezer xtreme or any other better cooler?

I wouldnt say MUCH better, most coolers will perform more or less the same. Of course you cannot compare a Megahelms to a freezer but the average joe does not need an 80 dollar cooler unless he is planning on pushing the CPU to its limits...

The V8 is a good cooler as well but there are cheaper alternatives that can beat the V8.

If you are going to push your CPU to its limits then get a Core Contact, Spire , S1283 etc....

As far as the Freezer Extreme i would not know, is there a link to that sink?

It's Arctics's best CPU cooler.

Yea that is an OLD cooler and does not have great reviews. I personally don't know anyone who has an Extreme.... Just look at frosty's list and pick a cooler. make sure you know what you are buying first, meaning make sure you have enough clearance for your ram and case....

Not sure what the exact temps were at 3.7Ghz, would have to ask or get a screenie. Let me get back to you on that one =)

so freezer pro is better than the xtreme in your opinion?

Reply to andy5174

No, the Freezer Pro is good up to a certain clock. For example, If I were to use a Freezer for a 920 I would keep it at around 3.6Ghz or lower... If I was looking for a higher clock that will be used 24/7 then i would get something more expensive/better ......

My point to the OP was that the Freezer Pro is fine if he is not going to go crazy on the OC....

Can you tell me what temp your friend get by OC i7-920 to 3.6GHz with freezer pro then?

Reply to andy5174

I would be keen to get the freezer xtreme if temp of the i7-920@3.6GHz with freezer pro is less than 75 C

Reply to andy5174

From what I can see it looks like you will be inclined to get the most out of your 920, what is your budget?

The Core Contact is Superior to any Cooler from AC and it's around 39.99% Free Shipping if you live in the states....

I don't think it's of any use even you know my budget as the products in NZ are hugely overpriced.

Even the Arctic freezer xtreme will cost ~$62USD in NZ.

My budget is about $75 USD.

ok 1 sec, looking at different websites in NZ......

75.00 USD = 101.389 NZD

This is what I would get with that budget :

COGAGE TRUE SPIRIT COOLER LGA775 & 1366 W/120MM FAN
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/co [...] artid=9820

a little over the budget but very well worth it....
