Configure usb port for lpt1

Hello,
I'm trying to hook up a plotter to my computer. I have a usb to serial cord to accomplish this.
my computer won't find the hardware and says I have to assign a port in the software set up. how do I assign a port to the plotter

does it have a parallel port or only serial port?

would connecting the printer via Network be an option?

it is a serial to usb cable that connects the two

Configure usb port for lpt1

you have a USB to Serial port; however, LPT1 is a parallel port. Serial ports are numbered COM1, COM2, COM3,...

Instate of trying to use LPT1 during the printer setup use one of the COM port associated with your USB to Serial adapter.

I was only able to find a XY-300P which also has a parallel port.

I hooked it to com 1, set all the settings for the port that match the program. the computer found the drive and the program is now sending data . now it seems that the plotter is not recieving the data. It is a master xy300P
