Well i have a Asus Crosshair II Formula motherboard with a amd phenom II x4 955 black edition, with a THOR'S HAMMER HDT-S126384 CPU Cooler. the cooler has 2 133cfm fans attached to it, and i would like to keep the current heatsink, i have already ordered a 400watt peltier measuring at 50mmx50mmx3mm, i have also ordered the copper cold plate and thermal paste and plenty of fans to cool the case. i already know about waterproofing the motherboard, i just need help with figuring out how to actually attach this peltier between this heatsink and the cpu. as far as i can figure it probally won't fit in there as is and i don't know how i am supposed to so please help.

i dont think you will be able to use the heatsink with a 400w pelt as your asking a 150-200w HS to take away 400w + your cpu which is 150-200w, so you definitively need WC and a good loop for that, as for OCing its alot harder because if you pass the max power output of the pelt then it will heat up instead of cooling your cpu. personally your way out of your league here i would go with WC first then down the line add the pelt in

Whew, best of luck. You do know the Pelt will put out more wattage than it will absorb? And you might need a seperate PSU just for the pelt? I don't think the HS will be able to take the heat. Pelts are cheap tho. I'd just get longer screws for the HS to backplate and give it a go. Pelts need a LOT of pressure so if your using the AMD spring thing, might want to figure out how to bolt down all 4 corners.

Best of luck. Fun experiment.

I already have a seperate PSU its a 25amp bench power supply, and i do know that but this heatsink is rated to run this processor at stock without any fans on it, and i am going to put 2 133cfm fans on it. and also there arent any screws holding this on, there is one of those lever clamps on it, i'm not sure if there are any hole son the board or not for this.???

well thanks, i have read and looked, it does seem like it will work out, but i'm not sure if there are holes for the screws on my am2/am3 board since it is normally a clip on design

Well i never plan on doing watercooling because i am selling this pc in a couple monthes, so what should i do with the peltier? should i make a pc case cooler, or what??

Reply to gadgeteer123

sell it on ebay, im sorry but it is no use for you. you could make a very powerful fridge from it

Reply to richardscott

well it was only 15 bucks for the peltier, i did get it off ebay, so ya i will either try making a pc case cooler or a fridge out of it, but anyways, is that heatsink plenty for my cpu without a peltier??

Reply to gadgeteer123

should be plenty, as for pc cooler you could just mount it to the side of your case add come fans and heatsinks and voila cooler temps just make sure that the airflow is enough so you avoid condensation

Reply to richardscott

well my pc has a 80mm fan on the top, would putting a am2 145watt heatsink on each side one on the top of the case and the other on the inside, would that work, or would the other fans in the case ruin the whole point? are there any links to people who have done this properly?

Reply to gadgeteer123

any heatsink on the cold side is fine buy you need a good one on the hot side

HAHA couldnt agree more, A 400w pelt will give off a good 550w on the hot side.

ok well thanks, when i get this all setup i will post elsewhere on here, and let u guys know how it goes.

yea send us the pics and also do some temp comparisons

OMG i got scammed by ebay gr, well they very well hid the fact that this TEC really is a 177watts peltier, and it consumes 400watts of electricty, so with this being alot less now, would it be worth putting it on my 125watt cpu, or would it not be powerful enough???

Reply to gadgeteer123

WOW that sucks linky to the ebay add? Because i think i was scoping out the same one a while ago.

he didnt scam you pelts are listed in two different ways the way you bought yours was by the power it consumes,

the other and more useful way is the rated power throughput with 0 delta T,

your pelt would be powerfully enough for your cpu but only if you didn't OC

Reply to richardscott

ya well either way i didnt get what i thought i got, and i do plan on overclocking, atleast to 4.2ghz, ive already achieved a stable 3.8ghz with a stock 145watt heatsink that came with my old am2 processor

Reply to gadgeteer123

well the only size up i know is the 535w which is about 230w Qcmax which is enough to OC with i have a duel core at 4.8Ghz and its only about 150w

Reply to richardscott

^+1.

@OP: You didn't get scammed. You should have read it right and understood TECs. It clearly sates the QMax is 178W.

ok i will post in this category so anyone interested keep an eye out in about a week or two.

Reply to gadgeteer123

If your doing a fridge thing or something not connected to PC please post it in the fridge catagory. We need this to die so no one else gets on a crazy TEC binge. Reading up for a week or so using Google and a few forums would of told you it "AIN'T GONNA WORK".

Sometimes the ability to buy stuff from the internet is just poor human engineering. You can't ask the chief of your tribe who has 300 years of collective knowledge if it's a good idea.

Reply to Conumdrum

well i had no clue there was even a fridge category so sorry. and i did read, i read like 20 articles but none of them where clear enough for me, and i read that ebay page like 4 times before i bought it i just somehow missed that little detail, so sorry, dont gotta put down my mood.

Reply to gadgeteer123

umm where is this fridge category??? i looked eveyrwhere don't be telling me to put it place that arent there?????????????????

Reply to gadgeteer123

Wow, I was just kidding. There is no fridge (refrigerator aka old term 'icebox') sub forum. this is a PC forum.

If it deals with a PC and cooling it's meant to be here.

If it's about cooling beer with a TEC it belongs here.

Reply to Conumdrum

Yeah, honestly i dont like these forums very much. For that exact reason. And the fact that there are only like 10 people who post here.
