1.5 TB Low-Power HDDs: Green Gets Big

The latest 2 TB hard drives are still expensive, but 1.5 TB disks provide low power consumption at a better cost-to-capacity ratio. We look at offerings from Samsung and Western Digital to determine the value of taking a step down from the flagships. Read more

MSI Eclipse Plus: Does nForce 200 Boost 3-Way SLI?

With 36 lanes of PCIe 2.0, 3-way SLI could be the X58 chipset’s biggest challenge. If that turns out to be true, is Nvidia’s nForce 200 controller hub, which multiplexes the platform's connectivity, a solution? We compare three configurations to find out. Read more

Gigabit Ethernet: Dude, Where's My Bandwidth?

Once we make the jump to Gigabit Ethernet, the expected tenfold increase in network speed doesn't seem to materialize. We'll look at the basics of gigabit networks, what limits their performance, and how we can get the best possible speed out of them. Read more

I know the HD 4850 Radeon is like 30% faster than the 8800gt but it`s also like 70 dlls more expensive(money I can spend on more ram or another cpu).

Ive got:

Athlon 4000+
2 sticks of DDR2 800 OCZ
3.0 SATA hdd 350 gigs
450 watts PSU +12v1(14 A) +12v2 (16A)

Thing is, I dunno what to buy, an 8800gt plus an X2 6000+(cuz its so cheap now) or a single Radeon HD 4850. My monitor is 19" widescreen (you know 1440x900) and I`m happy with it (bigger lcds are a pain to carry when going to lan parties), so I don`t think I need to spend more 200 dlls to play most games on high (xept crysis prolly)

I used to have an 8600gt XXX(not to shabby), suddenly I didn`t have time to play anymore so I sold it, a couple of weeks ago, I was invited to a lan pary(hadnt been to one in a looong time) and well I went to the lan party just to talk to old friends, but then they had all these monster PCs running gears of war and UT3 and Crysis and COD4 and the graphix were so freaking cool specially on the 24" inches screens, The gamer in me (or rather the nerd haha) was revived, I just had to play so I went home and grabbed my pc, and yeah... I had to play UT3 on integrated GRAPHICS! ....not too nice...not too fu#$ing nice... lol I know its a mothefu$%ing SIN! I never felt so frustated hahahaha I could barely aim! before the other player left the screen.

So! I would have my new card already but I dunno I wanted to ask here first (my friends just buy whatever is new or popular so cant really ask them, they`ll just say BUY four GTX 280s and a QUAD CORE EXTREME! and overclock the **** out of them and then submerge your comp in liquid hydrogen and ****)

Will the x2 4000+ Bottleneck the hd4850? will a bottleneck matter at suck low res? should I just quit whining, buy the 4850 and then later(when games require it) buy the 6000+ please get me out of the integrated graphics hell I live in!

8800GT is great already at 1440x900 resolution. If you got plans buying 22inch, then you might think of buying the HD4850 card

the 4000+ would bottleneck the 4850 a little bit but i would oc ur cpu and later on upgrade to a 6000+

It really depends on the game. 4000+ wouldn't bottleneck at all in CoD4. 6000+ would bottleneck heavily in Supreme Commander.

Nah... not really, I just don`t want to upgrade gfx card for a while after this upgrade, I wanna play fallout 3 maxed out and maybe Crysis again but this time on very high settings(even if its at 28 fps). I want to play DX10 games

I cant believe the 6000+ is only 90$ now! Its a hot chip but can be Oced to around 3.3 with a Arctic Freezer 64 . Also most games now are way too GPU limited i have a 6000+ and an Oced 8800gt and if i were to upgrade i would def get a better GPU!

I see I`m starting to think the 4850 is the better option, It will play most games just fine, and later when I upgrade cpu and mobo it will get a little better lasting longer than a 8800gt would.

yeah its super cheap thats why I thought maybe buying the 6000+ and a 8800gt is better than getting the 4850, but I think I`ll just get the 4850 for now, and upgrade cpu later

the price difference between the 8800GT and the 4850 isnt huge, and the 4850 is a fair bit faster. i would say get the 4850, and overclock your cpu a bit. then if you find some more money, get the 6000+, or maybe a phenom x4 depending on how much you can spend.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] 800xl-what <- cheap promoting, lol

Anyway, it would only bottleneck Crysis atm. And the 4850 has a longer life span than the 8800GT.

To the OP: If you can save a little longer, get the 4850 and the A64 6000+. If you can't, then stay with the 4000 and get the 4850. Under 1680x1050 is resolution, the "bottleneck" is just too little to note a difference, really. I'm telling you this by experience myself. Read my sig and the link :P
