It's been a couple years since I last built a full system, going AMD/ATI this time round using NCIX.com (I'm in Canada). As far as I can see, the parts I'm using should all be compatible and reliable, however as it's been so long since my last build I figured it couldn't hurt to ask those wiser than me. The main thing I'm worried about is the motherboard, which isn't listed as a recommended board for the 9850 on AMD's site. Will this board work for sure with the 9850 right out of the box (someone told me it might require a BIOS update?)? Other than that, are there any other reasons this system shouldn't work right after setup from the get-go? Thanks for any advice/replies offered, they are really appreciated ; ).
That mobo is made by DFI who is known for overclocking, but the SB600 chipset isn't as good as SB750 for overclocking the Phenom. These are the new 790GX with SB750:
ASUS M3A78-T
BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX A2+
GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H
If you're not overclocking, you can go with a cheaper board like ASUS M3A.
Don't worry about flashing bios. If you need to flash the bios to support the cpu, you can ask a store to do it for a fee.
