I am building a new system with:
- i5 750
- 4g corsair dominator http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] -_-Product
- using my 3 month old EVGA 9800GTX+
- using my 3 month old Corsair vx550
- using my 3 month old WD Caviar Black 500gb drive

- Will choose a case after the main parts are chosen and added up $$

I have not overclocked before, but I’d definitely like to get the i5 750 I have selected close to 4Ghz, but I am unsure which motherboard to choose.

I very much like EVGA and ASUS, so I automatically considered them. They have:

EVGA P55 SLI

ASUS P7P55D PRO

Now, my question is, based on the idea of overclocking to 4GHz, long term stability, price and features, (and the fact I have a 900GTX+ and want to SLI someday) which board would serve me best? The EVGA boards say the FTW but will not reply when I ask why.

If you're concerned about the whole Foxconn socket pin contact/burning issue, and want a piece of mind, go EVGA ftw since they use LOTES sockets on those. If you're not concerned about that, I like Asus PRO very much, and prefer the way the PCIEx16 slots on this board are spaced, if you go multi GPU.

If you dont want to go multi GPU, maybe ASUS P7P55D?

One more thing: if you intend to use a big cpu heatsink (like a Megahalem) you might have a problem if your GPU has a non-reference design, with additional parts (heatsink clips/holders or whatever) on the backside. Since the top PCIE16 slot is placed so high on Asus (notice that EVGA has that top PCIE1 slot first), a huge heatsink will come really close to a reference designed card, and might interfere if a card has any additions on its backside.

Also, keep in mind that high heatsinks on dominators will limit you choice of CPU coolers, or at least require some smart modifications.
