I am trying to overclock my old processor because its stuck at 1.9ghz. When I go into BIOS and set the number (not sure what it is called) from 200 to 225, it says
"IDE Channel 0 no 80 connector cable installed

Warning! Now system is in Safe Mode

Please resetting CPU frequency in CMOS setup"

The highest i can get it is to 202. Any ideas on whats going on?

FSB is too high that the PCI lanes can't keep up. Look for an option to lock the PCI at 33MHz.

After looking through BIOS, I only found a couple of options that included PCI. These where:

:Under Advanced Chipset Features

-PCIE SPREAD SPECTRUN [DISABLED]

-PCIE CLOCK [100Mhz]

:Under power management:

-Resume By PCI-E PME [Enabled]

-Resume By PCI PME [Enabled]

:Under PnP/PCI Configurations

-Init Display First [PCIEx]

-PCI/VGA Pallette Snoop [Disabled]

** PCI Express relative items **
-Maximum Payload Size [4096]

the : are menus and the - are options with the [] being the selected option.

Do any of these things have to do with that?

Lock the PCI-E clock to 100MHz, maybe you'd need to up the South Bridge voltage (ICH) by a bit.

I also just noticed, you got an AMD setup, I don't know much about AMD boards. I do know that in an Intel system the Southbridge voltage could sometimes be modified.

Sorry couldn't be a better help.

Any clue as to what you/we are dealing with? I know you have a 3600+, but what is the motherboard? Cooling? PSU? You shouldn't have to lock any buses to get above 202. My guess is you simply have a poor motherboard to OC with.

I have a GeForce 6100 motherboard with what I think is stock cooling, but not sure buecause it's alpine 7. either way its a fan. PSU is an Antec with 500w.
