Well I'm expecting 2gb of ram to add to my system, so I decided to look at my motherboard manual. I went to the FSB & Memory Config section and looked at the items:

(by the way that screenshot is not of my bios, it's in the manual)

Well I had no idea what I was looking at. I tried looking up Memory Clock Mode but it's a little confusing to me. It was something about linking the cpu and the ram together? Can anyone clearly explain each of these four items (and which would be the best choices in the items)? It would be greatly appreciated.

your memory is running at 533 MHz. your CPU fsb is running at 800.

Your CPU is likely an early core 2 duo, or celeron, you can change the word "linked" to "unlinked" and run your memory at any speed your memory is actually rated at.

your board uses DDR2 memory, you will find 1 GB and 2 GB sticks in the range of $15-30 each. When you are shopping, get DDR2 667 or DDR2 800, they may say PC2 5300 or PC2 6400 respectively. Anything higher is a waste, anything lower is a waste. the faster speeds can happily run at slower speeds, but slower cannot always run at faster.

If you were looking for advice to overclock, that is the screen you would do it at by changing the FSB from 800 to something in the range of 800-1600. Don't do it until you are darn certain what each value means.

The board will auto configure everything rather well based on whatever you put in it, and you won't have to configure unless you run into problems.

Thanks for the reply.
By the way that screenshot is not of my BIOS, it was in the .pdf manual for my mobo.
My cpu is C2D e6700 @ 2.93 ghz
and I am getting this ram (it is similar to my old ram):

I know it will work by the way.

So is this what I should do? (I'm not looking to overclock)
FSB - Memory Clock Mode [Unlinked]
FSB - Memory Ratio [Auto]
FSB (QDR), MHz [1066]

Thanks
