Hi all:

I bought a new GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3G MB and it works fine in my new system, but for the fact I purchased 2 new RAM chips, each was 2GB; the system only recognizes up to 3.5GB of a total of 5GB plugged in (first chip 1GB; and my additional 2 chips, each 2GB, for a total of 5GB). Could anyone help me get the full 5 GB (this board claims to recognize up to 8GB) recognized and email me at: pgerardjohnson@bellsouth.net

I would be most appreciative and can even send some IT work to the right person.

Paul

Enable memory remapping, or whatever it's called on your motherboard and use a 64-bit OS.

Welcome to the forums!

If you are using a 32-bit operating system, 3.5 GB is the maximum your system will recognize and 4 GB is your limit. The extra 1 GB won't help with a 32-bit system.

If it is only counting up to 3 gig or so during post, you need to enable memory remapping in your BIOS. If your BIOS is extensive, you will have 2 selections, SW (software remapping) and HW (hardware remapping). You need to enable SW remapping only if you have both options. Your POST screen should then count and show all the memory installed.
Now, a 32 bit OS will only be able to address 4 gig of memory. That is counting ALL the memory in your system. Addressing starts first with the memory on your Video card, CPU, Hard drives, etc. What ever is left over, up to 4 gig is addressed to RAM. So most people will show only around 3~3.4 gig of RAM once you boot into the OS.
To use all of your new memory, you have to run a 64bit OS.
