Hello people,

When I overclock my 4850 to 700MHz/1100MHz in ati overdrive in idle mode its temp lies in the 50's, the activity is about 0-10%, and the fan speed is about 22 degrees Celsius. But when I run a game like assassin's creed, the temp lies in the low 60's or high 70's, the activity lies between 90-99 or 100%, and the fan speed lies in the high 50's or the low 60's. Sometimes the activity drops to the 80's, or even the 70's in %age. Is that good for my GPU? How long will my GPU last if I use it in these settings? Would it be able to handle crysis and crysis warhead in these settings without being damaged at all, or without being burned, as I have completed both in stock settings. By the way, I overclocked it to 700MHz/1050MHz, and the WEI score showed a 6.7, and when I changed it to 700MHz/MHz1100, it came down to 6.6, instead of going up. How is that possible? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Temps should be fine. I would suggest running a 15min Furmark test (google it). If you temps touch 85 or so or you see artifacts, you should reduce clocks, otherwise its fine.

Get a benchmark software like 3D mark 06, 3d mark vantage etc and check for your GPU score. If 700MHz/1050MHz gives you a better score than 700MHz/MHz1100, then keep it to the former. Higher clocks don't always equate to higher scores.

You're talking about fan speed in degrees celsius. (fan speed is about 22 degrees Celsius). Fan speed should be in rpm, or percentage. You're probably confusing it with some temp value

Your temps are fine. Even I was having the same temps like yours. I just installed 120mm fan infront of my cards (crossfire) to suck the air away from the cards. Temps dropped by 5C-10C

^ umm, i'm pretty sure thats closer to the threshold temperature of the card than you'd want it to be.

A little googling revealed that after temps of 105, the 4850 throttles its clocks. Ergo, it is safe to assume that for all practical purposes do not let your GPU temperature overshoot the 105 degree Celsius mark.
