Bsod after i put new (to me) hard drive and booted

Hello,

ive got a dell optiplex gx50 that shows after the dell logo screen a BSOD with the following

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

***STOP:0X0000007B (0XF9679528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000

I tried to boot from dell diagnostic cd (with boot options set to cd)but the bsod keeps coming up. It might be infected with a virus because i got it from a used computers store but I know its not physically damaged because in the bios it picks up the device. is it possible to put this hard drive in another computer as a secondary hard drive and do a virus scan? please help quick because im only here till the 17th. thanks a lot
