The AGI slot is an AGP connector wired into the PCI bus. Any AGP card you put in there will perform no better than if it were a PCI video card. And no, I would not risk putting any recent AGP card in there. The graphics card MUST be AGP 3.3V tolerant, which is why there are no recent GPUs on the ASRock VGA list.

If you are planning to buy a new motherboard, then don't bother with AGP anymore. You might as well buy PCI Express motherboard and PCI Express graphics card. There is only one AGP motherboard for Intel LGA775 that is still being shipped as an active product:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2

And it supports PCI Express x16 cards as well (only 4x mode), so there would be no point in buying an AGP card. If you don't have an AGP card already, there are better options for LGA775 than this old VIA chipset board. The AGP versions are more expensive than the PCI Express versons, anyway.

If you lived in Germany or U.K. overseas in general, your could pick up a ASROCK AliveDual-eSATA2 which supports all AM2, AM2+ and AM3 CPUs along with 8X AGP support and 16X PCI-E support on the same board. The only draw back about the board is ATI AGP based videos and dual core, Triple Core, and/or Quad cores CPUs don't get along with VISTA due to the error 43 bug. I have this motherboard, and it runs rock solid and it even supports the 140WATT Phenom.
It's ashame that they couldn't use the ULi M1567 Southbridge instead of the antique Nforce3 250.
