First off my specs:

DFI LP DK x38 T2R @ 450 * 9
Intel C2D e8400 3.0GHz @ 4.05GHz, 1.3625 vcore
Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 (2 x 2GB) @ 900GHz 5-5-5-18, 2.1v
2x VisionTek HD4870 CFx @ 790/1100MHz
Corsair 750TX 750W

My issue:

As you may have noticed, right now I'm using the max CCC o/c on my 4870s. I would like to o/c them further however, and I've read that this is possible using ATI GPU Clock Tool and/or flashing my BIOS and/or using RivaTuner 2.10, etc. etc. For all that I've read about it, none of the forums/specific posts explain it in layman's terms. For a process like this, which could potentially damage my $260 GPUs, I would really like a better step-by-step guide, or some pictures or something.

I was hoping someone here could tell me (a) how to push my videocards past 790/1100 and (b) how to make sure I can still set my fan profile above stock settings and (c) make sure all those settings are saved and permanent.

Thank you very much!

Allow me to recommend Ati Tray Tools.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/ATI-Tray-Tools.shtml

It's pretty handy, but if you have vista64, you have to do a few things to get it to work, otherwise, it's all good.

If you have vista 64, you have to boot your computer without the stupid signed device check stuff. You can do this by pressing F8 during your POST screen, or there are several programs that'll do it for you.

If you don't want to use this, there's always rivatuner, which works fine for the 4870 or the ATI GPU Clock Tool, which I don't know much about.

BTW, I'm using the Ati Trays Tools to get my 4870 at 830 / 1000 right now. Haven't figured out the perfect combo yet. :)

I'm using riva tuner and have had a lot of luck. So far I can get 845/1101 stable in games but I have to turn the fan up to about 60% or it will crash.
