Hi, I have a RADEON X1600XT that I have been using for about 3 years. Recently when playing games that take very little power (counter strike 1.6) my graphics card temperature has gone up to about 110 degrees Celcius. My fan on the gfx card makes a grinding noise once in a great while (it has periods where it will do it on and off) and when I looked closer it seemed to be slowing down down and speeding up over and over. Im assuming I need to replace the fan on my card (or get a new card considering how ancient it is), but my real question is, is 110C a safe enough temperature for my gfx card to be running at?

No, it's not safe. The fan is dying. You can try to get a replacement from manufacturer, but since the model is old, they may not have it in stock. Even if they do, replacing a fan on stock heatsink can be tricky.

Might as well just get a new card.

But of course, if you still have warranty, just send it back and have them deal with it. If they don't have the card model in stock, they'll send a different one of similar performance.

would it be possible to purchase a third party fan of the same size? (Although I couldn't find a way to take apart the gfx card to access the fan)

Yes, that'll work. But since aftermarket graphics card heatsink+fan usually cost at least $30, and a X1650 can be had for about $50 or even less, is it really worth it?
