Put PC components in different case...no audio?

Hi, I stripped out the aging inards of my PC (Opteron 165, Biostar T-Force mobo, 4 DIMMS, 7600GT) and placed them in an older case I had lying around w/a DVD-RW and 160gb HDD to sell in lieu of some good deals this month.

I re-installed XP Pro SP2, installed my mobo drivers and GPU driver = No audio. XP shows the Realtek chipset as working. I uninstalled the driver and downloaded the newest one, same thing happens.

I've also already checked the BIOS audio settings.

Any ideas?

check to see what windows is using as the default audio controller

start-control panel- (classic view) sounds and audio devices.

Default is the Realtek 97 audio.

I've checked pretty much everything I can think of. Maybe I'll re-install XP again...

What happens if you try to play an mp3 or a wav file? Do you get an error?

WMP plays it fine, but I get no audio in my 2.1 speakers or headphones.

I HOPE the onboard sound didn't fritz out. This setup was rock stable right before I switched cases. It would be on for weeks at a time between reboots while gaming, editing and encoding.

Is the speakers connector fully inserted into the right connector? Do the speakers work properly on a different PC? Did you make sure that nothing is muted?

Yes, I'm not a noob :lol:

I just re-installed XP and tried everything again, even taking out the 7600GT and the Coaxial/S-PIDIF adapter before loading drivers.

Everything in XP says it should be working, but it's not. I guess I'll just buy a $10 sound card before I sell it
