is would it be better to get ddr3 1333 with good timings like 7-7-7 20, or to get a higher rated ddr3 1600 with slower timings like 8-8-8 24. I plan on getting a msi x58 platinum which has a recommended memory bandwidth of 1333, does that mean i have to get that or would it be better to get the 1600 speed one?

Go to msi's website and see if any memory is recommended for your board. The memory speed for core i7 is only 1066. Also check the memory configuration page to see if you can run it in pairs instead of 3's. Some boards run fine in dual channel mode with 2 or 4 sticks. I personally wouldn't pay a premium for ddr3 1600; your board may not need it, or select the slower speed automatically, so you'd be wasting your money.

I also need to know if lower timings are more important than speed as dugan had asked. I have chosen a few parts for my new build and would like to select the best memory that gives me more OC capabilities. I'm getting the i7 920 processor and the ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard. I'm wondering which of the following recommended memory would give me the most OC capabilities:

G.SKILL DDR3 1333 7-7-7-18 1.5V-1.6V
-or-
G.SKILL DDR3 1600 8-8-8-21 1.6V-1.65V

I have read that OC'ing on the i7 processor is different, so I also am seeking help from the experts.

Thanks for any help you can give dugan... and me!
