Ok i just got a HD 3650 for free still sealed in the box(never been used) and i currently have a X850 XT AGP card and i was wondering would this HD 3650 AGP be a better card for gaming. And do note this card was free im not looking to buy anything else mainly because i plan on building a new system in about 6 or 7 months.

the x850XT will be faster. You should just sell the 3650 on ebay or something.

I cant seem to find any benchmarks with both of these cards, does anyone know of any site that has both benchmarked. I checked the vga charts but cant find them on the same chart. I did find that the HD 3650 out performs the xl800 xt which im amusing that card would be close to the xl850xt

The 3650 is 3 generations ahead of the 850 and as such has a lot better architecture with better features, IE shader model 2 vs model 4 and HD decoding support. Im not saying a 850 is a bad card because it was great for its day and if you are only playing old games and dont care for features such as HDR lighting which looks a lot better than without, then its fine.
I dont know exactly how the two go as far as FPS goes but i had a 800XL and a 1650XT which is slower than a 3650. The 1650 gave a much better quality picture and was slightly faster than the x800xl. So going on that the 850 would be probably as fast in old games but would struggle in newer games and just plain wont play others.

It comes down to what you are playing and if you need improved graphics or not. If you are playing older games then you are probably better off sticking with the 850. Personally though having said all that i would swap the 3650 in anyway, if its worse you can swap it back.

The reason that there are so few new reviews of x850 is because it cannot run sm3.0, which new intensive games use. If you can't run the same games and same settings as newer cards, it's harder to bench them as apples to apples.

Speaking of which, sm3.0 is also a reason to use 3650 over x850.

thanks for the replies i put the 3650 in and games seem to run the same so ill guess ill keep it in just because theres a few games i want to try out that are sm 3.0 like medal of honor airborne.

3650 <= 2600 XT (my current gpu) but 3650 is DX 10.1 PS 4.1 VS 4.1 etc etc but the x850 XT is much better in some(or many) games.

I just recently "upgraded" from a X850 to an HD 3650.
I took the liberty of running the only bench mark program I had which was 3DMark 2001 SE.
My score droped from 11907 to 5916.

I'm going to try my games and see if they appear better or worse and I'll let you know, but so far I'm un-impressed.

Thats because you are testing using a program designed to test the features of the 850. Try running both on 3dm06 and see what happens.

Yep, 3dmark01 is programmed prior to the coming of unified stream processors. :p
