Memory compatibility

I'm about to get the below mother board.

I was wondering if I could still use my old Crucial Ballistix from my old system to this new motherboard. If I can, what would I be losing by not upgrading my memory?

That motherboard requires DDR3 memory and you own DDR2 memory. You'll have to by more expensive DDR3 memory. Why did you select that motherboard?

I get it less through my work's program. So it won't be of used to my new system? I guess I'll have to part off my old system.
