Well both the R700 and 2x 9800 GX2 cost exactly the same, but do they perform alike?
what do you guys think about it ?? as the single 9800 GX2 outperforms the single HD 4870...

Of course 4870x2 outperforms 9800gx2, do you even have to ask? :p

It also cost twice as much though.

quad sli out performs 1 4870 X2.
2 4870 X2 outperforms Quad sli

Some games (Crysis) are in favor of the GX2, and 4870 X2 has premature drivers, I'd say if your starting from scratch go with the 4870 X2s.

It will cost less than 2 GX2s and have the option for improvement in the future:)

9800gx2 quad actually edges out 4870x2 in every one except Half Life 2. Although the margin is small. 4870x2 drivers are still new, while 9800gx2 drivers are already mature. Expect 4870x2 to reverse this and edge out 9800gx2 quad with future driver updates. If you're forward looking, 4870x2 is the way to go.

I'm suprised the GX2 manages to stay above the 4870 X2 that many times, I kno the Drivers are premature, but damn!

Atleast I kno when they are ready, I'm going to be ready for my 4870 X2.

I might trade my 9800 GX2s for my cuzin's 280 GTXs since he doesn't need em till that day comes:D

Just to clarify the GX2 drivers for Quad sli are still premature, they don't scale well in every game. GX2 drivers alone are mature:)

That's true. Although it's a good bet Nvidia won't spend much more effort optimizing drivers for quad sli. It's just too rare a setup for them to spend the money and manpower on. :p

Lol, I you should always turn "on access" scan off when playing games anyway. It increase load times. :p

if ur stupid enough to go with quad sli you deserve all the problems it brings with it

2 9800 GX2s outperforms 1 4870 X2 period, no1 can argue that. THe 4870 X2 quad should be around 30% faster than the 9800 GX2 quad, but infant drivers just don't yield those results in all games just yet.

If you already have a GX2 you are going to be alot better off paying 280$ then 500$ for something that performs less. if your starting from scratch 1 4870 X2 would cost about as much as 2 9800 GX2s (a little less if you can find it) and perform lesss but it has more of a future then the GX2.

im not disputing that what im saying is, quad sli and 2x4870 x2 (for that matter) just bring a load of problems with it, games running slow or just not working, ur just asking for trouble, i would say stay away from both

not so much anymore. Quad sli has gone through sooo many optimizations we're seeing them outperform alot of setups. Seeing as CrossFire usually scales and is optimized better than SLI we should see the 4870 X2 working full power soon enough.

If possible youc an avoid Quad if you don't trust it or you don't like waiting for profiles, but they perform at the stage they are supposed to at this point:)

Who ever has quad 4870 X2 will regret paying alot for it, but they won't regret the life of the system, as we will be seeing so many improvements coming.

Problems vary from system to system , with different hardware and so on , but the drivers now are ironing out alot of incompatibilities and bugs. Haven't had any drmamas with the Quad Sli set up , the only thing that gives me some grief is my ram with overclocking, other than that I'm having a great gaming experience at high res.
Either Quad set up will just improve in time, not something to regret.

well it will up until There is a single card from Nvidia, that is able to outperform the GX2.

They tend to give up quick on dual GPU cards

lmao xfire holds many more problems than sli. yes the quad sli gx2 would be less than 2 4870x2 in xfire but my best friend has 2 4870 x2 in xfire..... lemme tell u i have a 9800gtx+ theres no way ive had as much crashes and overheats as he does i played garrys mod on his comp and in 30 mins it crashed 7 times each time i had to restart. it turns the case into a mini oven his room has to have constant ac to prevent his computer from catching fire. do not emphasize problems with sli. =D

all i have to say...
