Acer 5738g laptop hangs once I switch on

My acer 5738g is not letting me log on after I switch it on, neither the mouse nor the keyboard are responding.
I had uninstalled PC tools internet security and installed AVG 8.5 internet security. PC tools on uninstall asked me to restart teh laptop. But once I did that the laptop is not allowing me to log in at all.
