Is it normal for system fans to have IDE connectors

Hi I have two system fans in my Antec case. There are no connections to plug them into my MB system fans headers all I have is a IDE connector.

Does this mean that it requires greater power than what the board can output? . So I need to plug them into my PSU IDE power?

Thanks

The power is the same for the case fans. You can use the PSU connectors for those fans, Depending on the case, you might need 4 pin to 3 pin connectors.

I am talking about the case fans. I thought the case fans would plug into the MB sys fan pins. But maybe I am wrong and the sys fans pins are just for small internal fans.

My case fans have IDE connectors that fit into my PSU IDE connectors.

Some case fans come with the 4 pin molex connectors and you would need a 4 to 3 pin adaptors to connect them to the MB. By IDE connectors, are you referring to the 4 pin moex connectors? If so, you can connect them to the PSU as most motherboards don't have enough pins to handle all of the fans.

Its an Antec Three Hundred case.

The case fans have 4 pin Molex connectors.

My MB is a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 which has a

4 pin CPU header
4 pin SYS fan header
2 x 3 pin SYS fan header
3 pin Power fan header.

Thanks thats what I was kind of thinking. As I have so many molex connectors on my PSU and no other need for them. I may Power the fans from the PSU then?

This should be ok at both fans have independant variable control settings via a switch.

I hope.

You will be fine. The 300 is a good case and the manual probably recommends seting them on low. If you check your temps from time to time and find them higher than you like, you can always turn them to a higher setting.

Thanks for the good advice Michael.

I could always purchase a 4 pin to 3 pin at a later stage.

Yes Antec say keep it on the low setting and watch the temp.

Thanks again.
