Hi Everyone, I am trying to overclock my cpu, & the previous one I had, I was able to do with not too much of an issue, but it seems like they added more "switches" on to motherboards.
First of all my equipment - MB - Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H & & Kingston 2 - 2 gig PC-6400.
So I had a few questions..
1) What are people getting on average for an O/C on air & system being stable?
2) I've read in a few other forums to start with just raising the multiplier.. Is this true & if so, what have people been getting just by raising the multiplier & system being stable?
3) What are the negatives of using software based O/C programs (especially something like AMD Overdrive? Would this be something to help determine what seems to work & then to switch the settings on the board?
4) Last question.. I'm currently running AMD overdrive & at the moment, it has my system running at 202mhz at 18x & Core Temp is saying currently about 58c (This is not under any stress load), while speedfan is saying the following:
Temp1 47c, Temp2 51c, Temp3 57c, Core 58c.
Thanks!!
Chris
Which of these temps are the ones that I should pay attention 2
well if you tell us the CPU we could answer your first question!
First start raising the Bus speed the motherboard can handle more heat than the CPu, but for simple sake start with the CPu multiplier.
Software based apps like AMD overdrive can crash and you need to restart your computer (like mine does) so BIOS is safer., core temp at 58c is BADDDD, the Phenom II should never go past 62c, make sure the heat sink is seated properly and there is good thermal paste contact.
ALWAYS pay attention to the Core temp (58c)

So I had a few questions..
1) What are people getting on average for an O/C on air & system being stable?I could get mine to 3.7Ghz on a 1.43V with Idle temps of 45c and load of 55c
2) I've read in a few other forums to start with just raising the multiplier.. Is this true & if so, what have people been getting just by raising the multiplier & system being stable? This is true, the multiplier is the best way to OC this CPU. This is a guide that help me understand my cpu better: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=252299
3) What are the negatives of using software based O/C programs (especially something like AMD Overdrive? Would this be something to help determine what seems to work & then to switch the settings on the board?Answered above ^^^

Temp1 47c, Temp2 51c, Temp3 57c, Core 58c. This is BAD as stated before. I recommend getting an aftermarket cooler or resetting it as previously posted... I might be selling my Core contact if you're interested...
Thanks!!
