CD Drive not detected or recognized.

My Computer is not recongnizing the CD Drive. It was when I fist got the computer but now is no longer since i put in a cd burner. So i took out the burner and put the old one back in and is still not being detected. How can I fix this? My computer is running on Windows XP Home Edition. Thanks to those who help me out.

Is the drive recognised in the BIOS. If not, is the drive's cable seated properly on the motherboard.

^ +1...Check to see if it's listed in the BIOS.

Check to see if there's a conflict on the device in the device manager.

Double check to make sure BOTH cables are secure on the drive.
