i am runnin 64bit vista, 8800gt card

also how exactly do these tuners work? i know it has an antenna and im assumin it just picks up channels? i am assuming i dont need to have any cable or dish service.

What kind of HD are you watching?

Over The Air broadcast HD or Cable QAM style HD?

Well for non-cable, then you just need one with an ATSC tuner, and there are many options.

My personal preference for most people is getting a cheap Hauppauge, simply because it's pretty much all they do, and they are a little more invested in making it work with Vista (which is tricky for everyone).
With AMD/ATi selling their professional digital TV side of things to Broadcomm, I'm not sure their future dedication to driver updates, etc.

I would recommend as the base model the WinTV 850 or 950 models.

You can go cheaper with other solutions, but I wouldn't bother.
